Improving the heat deflection temperature of poly(lactic acid) foams by annealing

Poly(lactic acid) is a promising biopolymer but due to its low heat deflection temperature, the usage of PLA-based products limited. In case bulk products, annealing an effective way increase temperature. Our aim was improve temperature poly(lactic foams by annealing. this study, we showed that D-lactide content affects crystallinity foam structures in same it PLA. Lower resulted higher degree crystallinity. Annealing proved be induce cold crystallization. The temperatures were calculated with use DMA, which produced more accurate results than HDT device. Outstanding achieved (from 54°C 131°C) chemically foamed PLA (1.4% content) containing nucleating agent. excellent can explained increased crystallinity, exceeded 40%.
